The first Blog

I am rallying the troops to all participate in the Triathlon blog.

Tell us about your training

Tell us about your diet

Tell us about your love life

Ok no one really cares about your love life.

Just tell us stuff so we can all stay in touch while we train together....

This training has left me exhausted....Here's what I've done so far...I finally signed up for the Racquet Club; have done all the research on what we have to wear; have photocopied and forwarded the training schedule to family and friends multiple times; am in the process of picking out running shoes; have rallied 20+ family and friends to do this race with me; i started taking the stairs at work (to the second floor); have an appointment with my "trainer" on Monday to develop a strength training plan... With all of this planning and research, when do we train?

My training is going well, day before yesterday I did the 48 minute bike ride on the schedule. In the 48 minutes I did exactly 12 miles....so I have a ways to go. It left me pretty worn out its hard to believe that on D day I will have to bike 3 more miles than that and then run for 3 miles! Does anyone have any suggestions for a good running shoe that they like? Happy Training!

Oh, and really good idea Sarah. Thanks for starting this blog thing.

Ok I am glad to see people blogging.
I am off to swim at the gym today. I was just informed by my gym that I have to wear a bathing cap? So I am really looking forward to looking like a total loser.

Meanwhile yesterday I did a million sit ups and my stomach is SO sore it hurts to laugh.

NEED DIET PLAN FOR TRAINING!

HELP

I'm gearing up for training day tomorrow. It will be my first official week.....really looking forward to being at week 4 or 5 and being in a routine of working out and past all the aches and pains.
Shoes? New Balance and Asics are supposed to be the best....
Diet? I thinks it's as boring as low fat; high protien; watch the carbs and sugars.......too bad it didn't have a sexier ring to it. At least "triathlon" is new to our vocabulary...much more fun to have a reason for the gym.
cheers! Tami

So I got new shoes yesterday and I actually think I can run faster now. Amazing what a pair of good shoes will do. I also bought my first swim cap. I can hardly wait to slip that on.

I am bringing sexy back

How techno are we to have a blog, my 14 year old niece would be impressed I am sure! Thanks for setting this up Sarah, looking forward to meeting you in October?

Alright, so I definitely need some moral support right now....
Thanks DeeDee for listening to my training woes and commiserating with me this morning.
I'm thinking (and hoping) that all of you out there might agree with me...SWIMMING SUCKS! How did favorite childhood past times, such as swimming and biking, become PTSD triggers? I don't get it. All I have to say, is that I had to WALK many of the laps in the lap pool b/c my heartrate was OVER 200!
I started off at full speed on my first freestyle lap; and then never quite recovered from that point on. I thought I was going to need an inhaler!
Thank God for the breaststroke and backstroke. They saved me today (as well as the kickboard which I also used on a few laps).
My new goal to is to work up to 50% freestyle, 50% other strokes...and NO WALKING and NO KICKBOARD!!! Is 3 1/2 months long enough to get there? TL

Ok, people, listen up now......
Stop with the k'vetching! You are all doing just fine. Tami- at least you know how to do free-style and breathe at the same time, even though you had to stand and walk sometimes. Sarah- eat whatever you can to fuel yourself and I'm sure you look stunning in your new cap. Wendy- who are you? ARe you "our Wendy" from the Monarch's game last night? or do we not know you yet? Yes- 3.5 months is fine to get in shape- don't you worry. I have seen you skip up those stairs in the hospital like you are flying- you will be just fine.
Now- on to more important things- we're thinking we will have another party come Sept or so- and we expect all to make it- even if you live in Yuba City or NYC!

Coach "J" your words are super inspiring, I can call you coach J right?

Back to the topic Swim Caps:
My husband bought the "cheaper" swim caps for us.
Color of swim cap: WHITE
What it looks like on my head: CONDOM

Please discuss

Here is the question: Do non condom swim caps exist?

Deedee said...

Ok -- swim caps could be the reason we all fail this sprint!! I wore one last night and I felt like my brain was going to squirt out of my ears it was so tight!

Check out his site, gives a little lesson in swimcaps:

http://www.geocities.com/lapswimr/sc.html

I will consult my expersts (the 8 year old girls on my son's swimteam on which ones are the best).

BTW, did I mention that my 7 1/2 year old son swims 1 MILE everyday at swim practice!!! And I can barely swim 20 laps!!!

Is it "Normal" to sweat while swimming?

Darn, I wrote the cutest blog then realized I had to go and create a name and password. Now what was I saying? Something about how our gym doesn't require hats and I just swim around all those clumps of hair. Also, that maybe now I'll fit in with my niece and all her constantly texting friends. Blogging counts in their world, right?

And all of you are very impressive with your training stories! See you on the trail!

Okay... I can't believe I am blogging, what the hell is blogging anyway? I have not started training (as you already know Tam), but plan to very soon. My approach is to attack the mental aspects of training the mind first, then I will begin the physical aspects of training in a week or so. I'll let you know when my mind is prepared!

SWIM CAPS: I'm glad I looked at DeeDee website before shopping for swim caps. I got a BLACK silicon one and it seems to fit fine (It still looks like a condom, even in black). I haven't tried it in the pool...will keep you posted.
I also bought a pair of goggles and a RASH GUARD. Seems I've gotten sunburned one too many times and am now ALLERGIC to the sun! Yes, that's right. So I donned my new swimming attire for my family last night, and my 7 y.o. an said I looked like an Olympian. My husband chuckled....
Will keep you posted on how the "gear" works out better in the pool. TL

BTW Sarah - I CAN'T BELIEVE you left the job of swim cap shopping, up to your husband...you really should know better.

T.- You are in for a BIG suprise when you finally start training. I'm sad to say that our bodies aren't quite the same as when we were YCHS HONKER athletes. But I have to tell you, I'm really scared of your mental game.

I have a question for Sarah.... on the main page of our blog (and thank you for setting that up, BTW), you have a profile. Is there a way for all of us to do that or at least to show up there? Or is there a way that we can all be listed as the team? Then we all could know who everyone is, since Tami has recruited everyone she knows :) And I have done the same :)

SarahNYC said...

Dee Dee-
Ok so I am totally new to this so bare with me.

Calling all 12 year olds...

I think you can just double click on your name in the post section of the blog and activate your profile that way.

Again...This has been a total fluke and still am trying to get the hang of it. If someone else is a blog nerd please fill us in.

Tierni- I don't buy your mind game b/s...strap on your swim cap and join the team.

Tami-you are an Olympian. And no you can not be allergic to the sun. I refuse to believe that. Maybe it's a peanut allergy...
